EL PASO, Texas – Oct. 9, 2025 – LibreQoS has been voted Product of the Year by members of the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA).

Created by the El Paso-based company LibreQoE, LibreQoS is innovative software that improves network performance for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and their subscribers. Using advanced Flow Queuing techniques, LibreQoS helps solve bufferbloat—a common latency issue that can degrade video calls, gaming, and other interactive applications—improving the Quality of Experience (QoE) for end users and boosting customer satisfaction and retention for ISPs.

This recognition underscores LibreQoS’s growing impact on ISPs around the world. The company’s open-source software now powers more than 900 ISPs across six continents, helping them deliver faster, more reliable, and more responsive connectivity to their customers.

“Across the world, Wireless ISPs work tirelessly to deliver reliable, low-latency broadband, often in under-served areas where customers have few options,” said Robert Chacon, founder and CEO of LibreQoS. “It’s incredibly meaningful to be recognized by the ISPs we serve every day. We’re proud to help them deliver more stable and responsive connections through advanced traffic shaping and high-performance passive monitoring.”

The award coincides with the release of LibreQoS v1.5-RC-2, a major update that enhances performance and introduces new tools for large-scale monitoring and integration.

About LibreQoS

LibreQoS develops Quality of Experience (QoE) software tailored to Internet Service Providers and enterprises. Its open-source technology powers over 900 ISPs across six continents, helping deliver consistent, high-quality connectivity through advanced flow-queuing and real-time analytics.

Founded by Robert Chacon in 2020, LibreQoS began as an open-source project released to help ISPs worldwide combat bufferbloat and improve performance—at no cost.

“In 2020, I had just launched my ISP, JackRabbit Wireless, which focuses on providing connectivity to low-income families and under-served colonias along the U.S.–Mexico border,” said Chacon. “During the pandemic, internet stability became essential for work, education, and healthcare. As ISPs like mine struggled with bufferbloat, I began researching solutions and connected with internet pioneer Dave Taht, whose algorithms such as fq_codel were designed to solve this issue globally.”

Chacon, Taht, Herbert Wolverson, Frank Borsik, and others collaborated to expand LibreQoS’s capabilities—creating a resilient, high-performance QoE software platform ISPs could depend on. Five years after its launch on GitHub, LibreQoS now supports ISPs in 47 countries, providing vital reliability for communities where dependable internet enables telemedicine, education, and economic opportunity.
